About FunnyNicks

We take nicknames seriously.
Just not too seriously.

FunnyNicks started as a running joke between two writers who couldn’t stop nicknaming everything — coworkers, pets, even the office coffee machine. Now it’s a whole site of them.

How it started

Every good nickname has a story

We built FunnyNicks because most “nickname” articles online felt like they were written by someone who’d never actually nicknamed a friend, a pet, or a boat in their life. Ours are written by people who name everything — sometimes to a fault.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect name for your new betta fish or trying to find a nickname that’ll actually stick for your little brother, our goal is the same: give you options that are genuinely funny, easy to use, and worth repeating.

The people behind the puns

Two writers, one shared habit of nicknaming everything they meet.

Jamie Rourke
Co-Founder & Head Writer

Jamie has been nicknaming people since the third grade, starting with a teacher who’s still known in family group chats as “Mr. Thunderclap.” She’s spent the last seven years writing about names, language, and why some nicknames just fit and others never do. When she’s not writing for FunnyNicks, she’s probably renaming her dog for the fourth time this month.

Priya Anand
Co-Founder & Editor

Priya edits every list on this site twice — once for jokes that land, and once for jokes that don’t. Before FunnyNicks, she spent years writing team names for company softball leagues that never once made the playoffs. She still maintains that a great name is worth more than a great batting average.

Written, not generated

Every list on FunnyNicks is written and edited by an actual person — us.

Tested on real people (and pets)

If a nickname made it onto the site, someone actually tried it out loud first.

Updated regularly

We revisit and refresh our most popular guides as new nicknames trend.
